Do you know someone who has cancer or who has had cancer?  Have you lost a loved one to cancer?  You can make a difference in the fight against cancer!  NePA is again sponsoring the “Legal Beagles” team for the Sarpy County Relay for Life.  The 2016 event is being held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 5:00 to 11:00 P.M. at Papillion-LaVista South High School located at 10799 Highway 370 in Papillion, Nebraska.

Relay for Life is an event sponsored by the American Cancer Society that mobilizes communities across the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise money to support the mission of the American Cancer Society.  At Relay, team members take turns walking or running around the track.  Relay for Life welcomes all cancer survivors to take part in the Survivors’ Victory lap and dinner.  (They do not have to be a member of any team.)

After sundown, hundreds of luminaries light the track to remember those lost to cancer and to honor those fighting cancer and those who have fought the battle and won. The luminaries light up the night as a symbol of the hope and perseverance to continue the fight.

Fundraising for this important event is already underway!

Our first fundraising event took place on Monday, March 21st at Midtown Omaha’s wine and painting studio, The Corky Canvas.  A portion of the registration proceeds was donated to the Legal Beagles’ team for the Sarpy County Relay for Life.

A few fundraising events are still in progress. We have “Pick the Due Date.” For $1.00, you can try and guess the date that Amber Roberts (NALA Liaison and Co-Chair of our Relay team) will have her baby. She is due on April 24th. There are still plenty of dates open. The prize is 1/2 of the proceeds to the winner and 1/2 to Relay.

We also have “March Madness.” Join a March Madness basketball pool for $10, again with the proceeds being split between the winner and our Relay team.

We challenge all of you to think of some fundraising activities you can do in your individual offices.  Email the link below to your friends and relatives and ask for their help in this fight. Selling luminaries is easy and each is only $10. You may personalize your donation by designating the luminaries “in memory” or “in honor” of a friend or loved one and decorating the bags with pictures and words of love. Perhaps sell passes for a “Jeans Day” or collect everyone’s pennies or loose change—be creative!

For those interested in participating as a member of the team, please register on-line at 2016 Sarpy County Relay for Life as soon as possible. Click on the “Sign Up” button, find our team (“Legal Beagles”) and register.

You can also use the same web address to make a donation or purchase a luminary. Even a small donation from each of our members would raise a substantial sum!

With your help, we can do our part to make a difference in the lives of those who are in the fight of their life. Don’t just sit idly by; it’s time to take action!

Join us on the track as we Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back at Relay for Life!
