Join us at Mahoney State Park for the Mid-Year Meeting and Seminar on April 20, 2018! We’ve got a great lineup of speakers and topics for you. Click here to register for the event. You can pay by sending a check with your name and email address to NePA, Spring Seminar Registration, PO Box 24943, Omaha, NE 68124. We're currently working on updating the website to allow for payment for the Spring Seminar (for Student/Honorary members and Non-Members). We'll send out an email when that is available. Please contact Amber Roberts with any questions. Deadline to register and pay is April 13th, 2018. No late or walk-in registrations will be accepted.

**PLEASE NOTE: This meeting and seminar will be paperless. We will send all materials out via the email address used to register. There will be no printed materials available the day of the event. Confirmation emails acknowledging your registration will be sent by April 14, 2018. Email Amber Roberts if you do not receive one.

This seminar meets the requirements of the NALA Certifying Board for paralegals for Continuing Legal Education credit required to maintain the Certified Paralegal credential. Participants will receive credit for portions of the program attended, to a maximum of 5 hours.

The Ins and Outs of Being a Corporate Secretary

Description: A corporate secretary has a very complex role compared to the typical office administrative assistant. They are legally required by all states for every corporation. Although each corporation defines specific duties the secretary will perform in the bylaws, there are some general responsibilities that apply to all. The Corporate Secretary ensures the integrity of the governance framework, is responsible for the efficient administration of a company, ensures compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and implements decisions made by the Board of Directors. This may include drafting and sending documents or notices, subsidiary management and governance, providing orientation, education, and training to new directors, and ensuring succession planning. Join us as we discuss the Ins and Outs of Being a Corporate Secretary and the role of the paralegal in this function.

Description: DNA testing has come a long way in the past 30 years. Technology and procedures have helped to make the process more reliable and accurate, but it is still a mystery to most of us. Join us for this session where you’ll learn about modern DNA testing including procedures and equipment, what is legally needed to arrest or prosecute someone, what results can be used for, and what an expert witness experiences when testifying in a case.

Description: In today’s electronic world, there is rarely a transaction or interaction which is not recorded electronically in some fashion. Given the vast array of places that might contain evidence, how do you go about collecting all the relevant information to prove your case? Digital Forensics to the rescue! In this presentation we’ll discuss where information might be located, forensic collection procedures now and in the future, authentication of electronic evidence, presenting your findings in court, and best practices to help you win your case with digital evidence.

Description: With the explosion of the internet and all of the information you can find by simply typing a phrase into a search bar, companies and individuals are finding it harder and harder to keep hold of their protected information. A simple search can provide relevant links, images, videos and more. There is also the increase in popularity of sites like YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest that make it easy for users to upload and share information. We all know that once information is on the internet, it's nearly impossible to get it back or remove it. So, how do people and companies go about protecting their intellectual property and what rights do individuals have to the information? This session will discuss these questions and more as we navigate through internet IP considerations.

#MeToo: Harassment in the Workplace and Employer Liability

Description: Sexual harassment in the workplace may have reached a tipping point requiring new policies and procedures by employers to match the emerging willingness of employees to speak up and take legal action. This presentation will focus on the legal liability that employers may face and will discuss recent cases regarding sexual harassment in the workplace. The actions of both employers and employees impact legal liability, economic success, and the ability to hire and retain a diverse workforce.

**Breakfast will consist of pastries, coffee, tea and juice. Lunch will be a Salad Bar consisting of mixed greens, turkey and ham, cheeses (cheddar, jack and swiss), vegetables (cucumber, tomato, red onion), tuna and chicken salad, new potato salad, fresh fruit, rolls and crackers as well as coffee, tea and milk. We will have a snack in the afternoon as well.
