About the Douglas County Attorney’s Office - The Douglas County Attorney is an elected position with a four-year term of office. Donald W. Kleine began his service as Douglas County Attorney in 2007. The Douglas County Attorney’s Office is dedicated to serving the people of Douglas County, Nebraska.
The Douglas County Attorney’s Office in Omaha, Nebraska is currently accepting applications to fill a tax foreclosure specialist position in the Civil Division. Depending on the interests and experience of the applicant, areas of practice may include real estate, tax law, civil litigation, general legal knowledge and administrative duties.
Job duties may include, but are not limited to: title searches, drafting various pleadings and proposed orders, electronic filing, coordinating and tracking tax sales, tax sale certificates, confirmations, orders of sale and distributions with the Omaha Municipal Land Bank (“OMLB”), Douglas County Treasurer’s office, Douglas County District Court Clerk’s office and the Land Reutilization Commission (“LRC”). Candidates will have additional job duties assigned by the County Attorney or designee.
Work Experience and Other Requirements
Graduation from an accredited real estate program or paralegal program and/or college degree. A minimum of three (3) years experience required, but five (5) years of experience working in a professional office setting. Real estate (such as working for a title company), legal and/or tax experience is also preferred, but not required.
Ability to read, understand and interpret title searches, ability to check for federal/state liens or judgments by reviewing Federal/District Court cases, ability to check County Court files and update (if possible) addresses, ability to research deeds and mortgages either online or microfilm, and ability to review probate files if necessary. Excellent research and writing skills, time-management skills, and ability to understand and manage complex tax issues. Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and decision making. Skill in preparing memos and other documents; ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to their completion; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions; ability to handle information of a confidential and sensitive nature. Ability to understand and follow exacting verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, in English, verbally and in writing. Must have experience using electronic legal resources to complete research; ability to utilize word processing skills to prepare documents.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, judges, court personnel, other governmental offices and agencies, and the general public. Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.

Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Hours of work are generally standard day-shift hours however work hours may occasionally include weekend, emergency call-in and additional hours. Incumbents may encounter uncooperative or irate persons while performing duties.
Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, and occasional balancing, kneeling, bending, and reaching. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift and carry supplies, equipment and documents weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
